The North Face 100

Nicole Smyth finishes in 25:19:53!!!

Huge congratulations to Nicole Smyth whom at around 6am WA time Sunday, completed the most challenging 100km ultra race in Australia, the North Face 100.
While you/we were all tucked up in our beds and sleeping, Nicole was out there in the Blue Mountains, in cold conditions making her way up and down seemingly endless mountains.
From someone (myself) who has completed in excess of 40 events of 24 hours or more, I know just what was going through her mind out there. Most of is not for publication on social media/the internet I can assure you.
Living and preparing for this event in Broome WA was always going to be tough for Nicole. Sure she could train but the conditioning required for the descents (which always places excessive strains on knees) was going to challenge her.
In any event, once you pass the 14 hour mark, the demands on mental reserves are all you have to make to the end.
Because of that Nicole’s resilience and tenacity got her to the finish line in Katoomba this morning, nothing else.
Nicole, you should be so proud of yourself, as I am.
